Here are the Thanksgiving Day pix (the ones that came out, anyway).

Y'start with the turkeys brining.

Then you get your stock going (when I started the pot was to the edge with liquid, as in the 1st of these two pix)
This picture got mangled, but it was the picture of all the accoutrements needed to cook all this stuff.
These are the tables for all the people who came. (Not shown: Kid's table.)

Top and bottom ovens, w. one turkey apiece.
The appetizer leftovers.
The grilled turkey leftovers. (Note the tray with the heretic mashed potatoes is DAMNED NEAR EMPTY.)
The regular turkey leftovers.

The general leftovers.
A very tired 8 y.o.

I think I did not thoroughly comprehend the magnitude of the event.
Only now am I completely comprehending the magnitude of this event.

I couldn't figure out what the little oval gefilte fishes were. Then I decided they must be ice cubes.
And is that a chef's jacket on No. 1 son?
If so, you're scaring me. I am really not ready to have a younger and probably even more energetic version of you as a son-in-law.

sweet heavens. once again thankful it was you and not me.
and i thought the gefilte fish/turkeys were worms. for some reason.

Poppy, that is, indeed a chef's jacket on Numbah One Son. (Numbah Two Son only has a W-S apron for now...)
But don't worry about having a younger and probably more energetic version of me as a SiL. Worry about having a MUCH younger and definitely more energetic version of me as a grandson.

Now are you going to explain the worm/gefilte fish/turkey things or are you going to force me to google and guess?
Joke posted at 7:55 AM, November 21, 2006
Oh, those were merely half-melted half-moon shaped ice cubes, as Poppy correctly ascertained.

the brining of the turkey in an esky is genius.
I was trying to work out how the hell I'd do something like that in my stupidly small fridge when Thanksgiving and Christmas fall in our summer and leaving the turkey somewhere cool - as many recipes notate - is just a recipe for mass food poisoning disaster.
